Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)

Network pricing discounts can be more valuable to health plan members than the insurance.

A preferred provider organization (PPO) is a "front line defense" for controlling health costs. For most health plan members, in fact, the discounts on out-of-pocket health care services total more than the amounts paid by an insurance company. For example, suppose a series of doctor bills and lab expenses total $1,000. Most policies today would not cover any of the expense that falls below the average deductible of $1,500. Yet the out-of-pocket expense might be reduced from $1,000 to perhaps $600 through claim processing by a PPO network.

PPO network discount arrangements are built in to most currently available health insurance plans. For those who do not have access to a PPO network through health insurance, the PPO discount plan is available as a separate benefit.

The two most popular PPO networks here at Freedom Benefits are Private Healthcare Systems Inc. (PHCS) and Beechstreet Network.  Both are national networks well-represented in metropolitan areas.
