Products for individuals are offered through Golden Rule Insurance, American Medical Security, PacifiCare, and Oxford Health Plans, depending on location. See the separate listings for each of these companies on this Web site.
UnitedHealth is the largest provider of private Medicare Advantage plans for seniors and the largest Medicaid managed care company serving low-income people in the United States.
7/10/2011 UnitedHealthOne announced an enhanced marketing promotion of individual health insurance plans issued by Golden Rule insurance Company in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The promotion is intended to encourage independent agents to introduce these products to more clients during summer which is historically a peak enrollment period. Golden Rule Insurance is already the leading issuer of Health Savings Account insurance plans in some of these states. The promotion runs through August 31.
6/22/2011 UnitedHealthcare alleges that members of the U.S. military covered by TriCare have difficulty finding participating providers under a contract awarded to Humana and filed action against the Department of Justice in hopes of being awarded the service contract. While the final bid from Humama was lower, the low rate of reimbursement to doctors and hospitals creates an unreasonable risk for members of the military, according to UnitedHeathcare's findings.
5/26/2011 UnitedHealth Group announced that 96 percent of voting shareholders approved the company's executive compensation for 2010 at the company's annual meeting Monday. Chief Executive Stephen Hemsley's compensation increased to $10.8 million in 2010, a jump of 21 percent from the previous year.
9/8/2010 New TV and print ads promoting "Health in Numbers" emphasizes the innovations that can be achieved through collection and application of health care data.
Enhanced coverage effective 9/1/2010 Coverage under individual insurance plans will be enhanced by the implementation of key health reform provisions: 1) Effective date of coverage will be the later of 30 days after an application is received or later if requested by the customer (but no greater than 60 days from the date of application). 2) No waiting period. The 14-day waiting period for illness following the effective date of coverage will be eliminated. There will no longer be separate effective dates for injury and illness! Full benefits for injury or illness are available immediately starting on the first day of the policy. This change does not impact a) current Golden Rule customers whose health plans are already in force, b) applications received prior to September 1st, c) short term medical insurance or d) dental plans. Note that in order to receive these benefits is important for both current and new members to make an application on or after September 1, 2010. Also consider that a separate 30 day short term medical insurance application will always required when immediate coverage is required. Both applications can be made at the same time online in a matter of minutes.
4/8/2010 Payments to doctors and hospitals under United Healthcare's Medicare Advantage plan will remain frozen at the same levels for 2010 according to rules issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid today. Medicare Advantage currently pays doctors about 14% more than traditional Medicare so the freeze is an attempt to reduce the disparity between the two different types of Medicare. Obama has criticized the Medicare Advantage health plan as being overly generous with government money. The change is not expected to have any significant effect on Medicare Advantage members nor United Healthcare's overall operating results.
9/9/2009 Sue Schick, CEO for
United Healthcare's Pennsylvania health plan, met with Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Joel Ario to discuss his efforts to expand competition in the state. He is investigating whether the state’s four Blue Cross and Blue Shield affiliates took part in any anti-competitive or unfair trade practices.
United Healthcare wants to use this opportunity to expand competition with its
Pennsylvania insurance products that may be more competitive choices.
