State Children's Health Insurance Plans (SCHIP) Consumer Web SitesDepartment of Health and Human Services logo

The federal State Children's Health Insurance Program, often known as SCHIP or simply as the Children's Health Insurance Program or CHIP matches federal funds with state funds to provide affordable health insurance to families with children. The program is coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The DHHS Web site can be accessed by clicking the logo to the right of this page. The programs are available to cover those with incomes that are too high to qualify for Medicaid coverage. These health plans are offered at a reduced cost or, in come cases, for free to those who qualify. Details vary for each state. Some plans cover children only, others cover entire families. Coverage details, premium rates and eligibility requirements are updated frequently.

Information of SCHIP is available locally through most schools or pediatric offices and also online at each state's Web site. The listings below will help provide access to the SCHIP programs and links to other resources that can help with affordable children's health insurance.
