Student's graduation does not change commercial health insurance

Our guest asks:

My 26 y/o son will be a full time college student till August. I am seeking a quote for the Saver PPO 80/20 plan and am wondering what the monthly rate will be after he graduates. Also, will the plan's benefits change when he is no longer a student?

OnlineAdviser responds:

The pricing for “CelticSaver” and other insurance plans is available online at www.celticenrollment.com;  just answer the few questions and the rates are calculated.

Neither the insurance plan, coverage nor the rates will change after graduation. This insurance is not limited to students so he can keep it as long as necessary after graduation.

I suggest that you also consider a short term major medical insurance instead of the permanent insurance plan mentioned. This typically offers better value with lower out-of-pocket costs for a young graduate and gives him up to a year to (hopefully) enroll in coverage under a future employer-provided group plan. Quotes and information are available at the same Web site.
