Immediate medical insurance coverage
A member asks:
I have a question about which coverage to chose, I would only need coverage for a month or so until I am added to my husband's benefits, but I need a coverage that would cover me right away so I can get a prescription filled and also I need to make an appointment for a doctor's visit for a pap smear.
OnlineAdviser responds:
Short term medical insurance is available for periods as
short as one month and coverage can be renewed on a
month-to-month basis if you need coverage for a few more
months. The insurance is effective immediately after
midnight when you apply and make payment online.
Remember that individual medical insurance, especially
the short term policies, does not cover the cost of
prescriptions for a pre-existing medical condition. In
this situation, the best alternative is to any of the
short term medical plans that include a prescription
discount benefit or enroll in our prescription discount
plan that is available to all Freedom Benefits Web
site guests.
Coverage for a regular pap smear is mandated by law and
so coverage for this is the same on every insurance
plan. If a PAP smear coverage is required by law (based
on your age and frequency of the test), the full cost of
the test is covered and the policy deductible does not
apply.
The most valuable and important consideration for you at
this point is that by providing proof of the short term
policy that was in force before the group benefits start
you will receive benefits for your prescription and
other pre-existing medical conditions sooner.
Visit the home
page of Freedom Benefits and choose your state from
the US map. Products vary from state to state, but any
of the short term medical insurance plans that may be
available in your state will provide the benefits
discussed here.
